Book Blurb:
The night before her fifteenth birthday, Rosaline Clayton uncovers a deep family secret. She receives an amulet from her deranged father, and he tells her she must find the book in order to save him. Rosaline is used to her dad not making any sense, so she dismisses their conversation as another of his crazy rants.

When Rosaline’s brother, Elliot, drags her to their nana’s attic to explore, they find the old leather-bound book tucked away in a chest. It sucks them into its pages, transporting them to a magical world. Along the way, Rosaline and Elliot are separated, and the only thing she wants is to find her brother and go home.

The creatures of Immagica have other ideas. After years of war, their land lies in ruin. Using the amulet’s power, they want Rosaline to defeat the dragon and restore Immagica to its former glory. But Rosaline is bound to Immagica in ways she doesn’t understand, and when she discovers the truth about her family, she must follow her heart to save them all.

The Map:
Check out the map and all the amazing places in Immagica (click the image to make it larger). You'll have to read the book to find out where Rosaline gets to visit.

To celebrate the release of Immagica, there is a blitz happening from February 1-7, hosted by Xpresso Book Tours. When I have the schedule I'll post it so you can follow along.

COVER REVEAL: Evil Red by Nikki Jefford

Evil Red (An Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter Novelette)
Genre: New Adult, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy
Publication Date: February 2014

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20420174-evil-red?from_search=true

Synopsis:
L.A. is one tough city, especially while sharing a trailer with four thieving sisters.

Valerie’s plans for a better life and Hollywood grandeur are interrupted after a fateful stabbing lands her in Anchorage, Alaska where government agents expect her to play the role of a vampire hunting La Femme Nikita.

The redheaded vixen is back in her own Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter novelette.

Novella is approximately 18,000 words

Excerpt:
As the door closed behind the agents, Valerie snatched a knife off the table and stuffed it into her back pocket. She picked the handgun back up, opened the chamber, and checked for bullets. It was fully loaded. She snapped the chamber into place and unlocked the safety. With that she walked over to the far wall of the room, spread her legs shoulder width apart, and aimed at the door.

Valerie glanced at the mirror.

“Ready.”

There was no reply.

She kept her arms steady. The gun weighed on her arms as she waited, but she didn’t waver. There was a sudden knock right before the metal door screeched open. A twenty-something man stumbled in as the door slammed shut. The dude was skinny and a bit pale, but who wouldn’t be in a place like Alaska? He righted himself and faced the door. And there he remained standing, staring at the door as though it would open if he waited long enough.

Some vampire. Valerie lowered the gun slightly as her arms relaxed.

“Hey, you,” she called out.

The man turned more suddenly than she’d expected. His eyes sparked to life when he saw her.

“Blut,”
he said. “Ich brauche Blut.”

“I don’t speak vampire,” Valerie retorted.

The man started walking toward her.

Valerie raised her gun.

“Stop! Stay where you are.”

The man kept advancing.

“I said stay where you are!”

“Ich brauche Blut,” the man said back.

When he was three feet away from her, he reached for her neck.

Not again. Valerie wouldn’t be a victim a second time.

She pulled the trigger.

Celebrating Aus Blog Hop + Giveaway

Happy Australia Day!

Today is Australia Day. It's a national holiday (unless it falls on a weekend like today, then we get the Monday off).

Everyone dons their thongs, swimmers, hats and zinc, and heads to the beach.

Or we fill the Eskys with ice, grab a cold one, and throw some snags on the BBQ for lunch while lazing by the pool.

It's a great day.

But ... my favourite thing about Australia day ...

Pavlova!

My mum always makes the pav with one of these:

And it's the best pav ever!

Things I love about being an Aussie and living in Australia:
  • Summer BBQs
  • The fact that the only pair of shoes you need all summer is a pair of Havaianas
  • Wearing singlet tops and short skirts
  • The smell of sunscreen
  • Running around under the sprinkler
  • Friendship and how nice Aussies are in general (we're pretty awesome!)
  • Our Beaches
  • Dancing in a sunshower
  • Camping in the Aussie bush, or by the beach
The girls at Aussie Owned and Read (that's me!) have put together a great list of prizes to win in celebration of this awesome day. And, it's our one year blog birthday! So make sure you enter via the Rafflecopter below, then hop around the other participants to see what they have to say about all things Aussie.

COVER REVEAL: The Problem With Crazy by Lauren K. McKellar

Today I have a very special cover reveal for you. The Problem With Crazy is by Lauren K. McKellar, who is a fellow blogger at Aussie Owned and Read, and a good friend. This book is very close to Lauren's heart, and she has made the amazing decision to self-publish it. I can't wait to read it... Oh! And make sure you enter the giveaway at the end of the post.

Title: The Problem With Crazy
Author: Lauren K McKellar
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Cover Design: Berto Designs
Release Date: February 13, 2014

Book Details:
The problem with crazy is that crazy, by itself, has no context. It can be good crazy, bad crazy . . . or crazy crazy—like it was when my ex-boyfriend sung about me on the radio.

Eighteen-year-old Kate couldn’t be more excited about finishing high school and spending the summer on tour with her boyfriend’s band. Her dad showing up drunk at graduation, however, is not exactly kicking things off on the right foot—and that’s before she finds out about his mystery illness, certain to end in death.

A mystery illness she is likely to inherit.

When your whole life goes from adventure and ecstasy to sad and suicidal, what’s the point? Not knowing who to love, and who to trust . . . where does it end?

The Problem With Crazy is a story about love and life; about overcoming obstacles, choosing to trust, and learning how to make the choices that will change your life forever.

*A portion of sales from this book will be donated to a Huntington’s disease-related charity (details TBC)

Excerpt:
Gypsy Rose placed a series of cards on the table, one after the other. They were brightly coloured, garish-looking things, full of shapes and objects, some of which I recognised and some of which I didn’t.

“Is there anything specific you want to know?”

The words stuck in my head.

Yes, when is my dad going to die?

Sure, will he remember me at all?

Okay, let’s start with am I going to have a mental illness and lose control of my words and movements?

“Oh you know, just general stuff.” I smiled vaguely and bit my lip.

Indie Life: Wishing You a Great 2014

Welcome to my Indie Life post for January. This is a monthly feature posted on the second Wednesday of the month and hosted by the Indelibles. The aim is to promote, encourage, and support indie authors.

After the crazy time that was Christmas and the New Year, I'm happy to be sitting at my parents' farm, relaxing for the first time in a couple months. Immagica finally has a release date of January 28th, and when I made that decision it was as if a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.

So, for the first Indie Life of 2014, I don't really have much to say other than:

I hope 2014 brings you all you wish for, and that you achieve what you set out to achieve.

Cheers to the start of an awesome year *clink*.

Happy New Year - Resolutions for 2014

The past few weeks have been busy ones, and in the lead up to Christmas I didn't have time to blog. But I have been thinking about the new year, and what I'd like to achieve in 2014. I had a great 2013 and I'm really looking forward to the awesome things the next 12 months will bring.

I love making resolutions, and looking back at last year's resolutions HERE I can honestly say I achieved all of them. Numbers 3, 4 and 5 have now become ingrained in my everyday life. Mission accomplished.

The first two on the list will be the same, but I have some new ones as well.

1) Write more
I'm hoping to finish The Tate Chronicles this year. I may not publish the entire series, but I will publish part of it, and I plan to finish writing it at least. I also have so many other ideas I'd like to work on.

2) Read More
Last year I read 59 books of my goal of 52. Yay! To see what I read go HERE. I'm going to keep my goal at 52 because a) I know I can achieve it, and b) I had fun beating my goal and seeing how far past 52 I could get. Let's see if I can beat 59 in 2014.

3) Write a Business Plan
When I first published Fall For Me I was pretty much winging it, and I have been ever since. This year I want to map out what I'd like to achieve with my writing. I need to plan where I want to go, what I'd like to write next, how much I think it will cost, and all the other boring stuff associated with running a business. This writing thing is what I want to do for a very long time, so I think it's time to get a little more organised.

4) Schedule My Time
Last year I made the resolution to stay off-line more. This year I want to put a schedule in place so I can use my time more efficiently. I'm working more days with my new job, so I have a little less time than I did last year. I'm a huge procrastinator, and I need to put a plan in place so I don't waste any time.

5) Eat Better
I'm lucky food doesn't affect my weight. I've always been able to eat what I want, but lately I've been feeling a bit blah. I'm going to try and cut out all the crap, eat more fruit, and drink more water. I don't need to diet, but I do need to make healthier food choices.

I'd love to know what you plan to achieve in 2014.
