A Healthy Obsession, an Aurora Sky Promo and a Giveaway

When I was little, I can remember curling up under my dad’s arm and being terrified of the Daleks on Dr Who. Yes, my father let his five-year-old daughter watch scary science fiction—and I love him for it!

I grew up with shows like Dr Who, The Twilight Zone, Lost In Space and Star Trek. For as long as I can remember I was always allowed to watch pretty much anything Dad was watching, and we often sat together to see Arnold Schwarzenegger (as Ben Richards in The Running Man) kill Buzzsaw for the twentieth time. Ok, so maybe I was a little older by then, but you get the idea. My dad’s love of all things sci-fi instilled in me a passion for it, too.

Then in 1997, along came Buffy. I had finished high school the year before and started college, but I still looked forward to sitting down with Dad and watching whatever sci-fi, paranormal, freaky show we could get our hands on. (We were both also huge fans of The X-Files. I mean, who wasn't!)

Over the seven seasons that Buffy was on air, a lot happened in my life. I graduated from college, bought my first house and married my high school sweetheart. My parents also moved away, so I lost my regular TV time with Dad. This made me sad because unfortunately my husband doesn’t share my same passion for the weird and otherworldly.

For a while, I forgot about Buffy. I know! Shame on me! But about a year or so ago I went out and purchased the entire seven seasons on DVD (along with the five seasons of Angel). I drove my husband mad watching it all again from the beginning. Sometimes I managed four or five episodes in a night, and he thought I’d gone completely crazy. But those people out there (and I know you exist!) that don’t get it, well, you just don’t get it.

Joss Whedon is a genius. Enough said.

I tend to prefer my heroine to be more kick-ass than clumsy, and I’m sure you all know who I’m referring to when I make that analogy. I also like my bad boys bad, and not so much sparkly. In Buffy’s world the boys are definitely bad. I’m still torn as to which team I’m on. I keep changing my mind all the time, and I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’ll just have to live with wanting both Angel and Spike—a bit like Buffy, really. Ok, now I’m getting into creepy obsession territory, so I’ll move on.

I’ve done some digging around on YouTube, as all people with a healthy obsession do, and I just wanted to share with you some of my favourite videos. There were quite a few, and I found it hard to choose, so I hope you enjoy.

I definitely prefer my vamps mean:

The hotness of the Buffy bad boys:

I could go on, and on, about how much I love Buffy, but you probably don't want to hear it so...

Now for the promo:
Aurora Sky Vampire Hunter is a new novel by Nikki Jefford. Nikki’s original take on these creatures of the night is packed with attitude, angst and blood, and it’s a must read for any hard core vamp fan. If you love Buffy as much as I do, then you'll love Aurora. Check out the info below, and don't forget to enter the giveaway.

Book Description:
If there is one thing eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky wants, it’s to get off the iceberg she calls home. Being kissed before she graduates wouldn’t hurt either.

Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Government agents step in and save Aurora’s life in exchange for her services as a vampire hunter. In Alaska. Basically she’s a glorified chew toy. All thanks to her rare blood type, which sends a vampire into temporary paralysis right before she has to finish the job… by hand.

Now Aurora’s only friends are groupies of the undead and the only boy she can think about may very well be a vampire. And if he’s a vampire, will she be forced to kill him?

For ages 16+

  1. Kim, you are awesome times affinity. This morning I said in a blog interview that I prefer creepy vampires to sparkly ones! You’re a woman after my own heart…but how can you not be full on Team Spike?! LOL Angel is too moody, broody for me.

If you want, check out this quick post I did at YA Stands in December 2011 “Move Over Mr. Moody Broody.” ;)

    1. Lol Nikki. That was a great post. It's funny, because when I'm watching Spike it's him all the way. But then when Angel is on, I'm on his team. When I think about it though, I'm probably more team Spike, because when the two of them are side by side I definitely prefer him. I’m still torn! Can’t I just have both…
      Love ya, too x

  2. I was never really an Angel girl when he was in Buffy - he was just a tad too emo and angst-ridden for my liking. (Angelus, on the other hand: awesome.) Spike was better because he was fun.

I also liked Riley at the start because he was fun too. Then he got seriously emo and cut himself (or got someone else to), and that was even worse than Angel!

Angel in his own show was much better.

Speaking of Joss being awesome, have you seen Firefly and Serenity? Or Dollhouse? :)

    1. I prefer Angel, Angelus just annoyed me sometimes. But I'm not complaining too much. I'll take both of them lol. I think Spike was much better at being the bad boy. I haven't seen Firefly, Serenity or Dollhouse, but I also love Eliza Dushku, so would love to watch Dollhouse at some point.

If you entered Nikki's giveaway you'll still be eligible for the international part of the prize.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by.
